What do I enjoy doing in regard to my role in the home?
Cleaning the house? Not really. Cooking? Yes, definitely that—plus trying new recipes and changing up the ones I have to utilize the ingredients on hand. Laundry? Yes, and it’s even fun to sort clothes and put them away once they are washed and dried. Organizing things? Absolutely!
I feel much satisfaction wash over me as I bring order out of chaos. Coming home from a shopping trip with bags all over the floor and counter—I love it! Putting away groceries brings much satisfaction! Returning home from a trip and unpacking the suitcases? I love that, too. I know where things go so it’s easy to put these things away and once again restore a room or house to a place that’s lived in but not cluttered.
I actually find it very distracting to have clutter around me. It’s hard for me to focus and pay attention to whatever needs to be addressed without my mind wandering everywhere. If there are things laying around and out of order, my mind becomes a bit disturbed and my thoughts scattered. I am so thankful for my mother, who also kept order in our house and loved having her surroundings simple and picked-up.
Do you have chaos in your life? Do things run smoothly day by day, or are there hiccups or gigantic upheavals that throw themselves in your path, messing with your mind and causing major distractions?
I can take a messy and cluttered room and create a beautiful and enjoyable place in a small space of time. But what can I do when there are things in life that are out of my control? When no pieces or items can be placed in their proper “home,” and I face only uncertainty, messiness, and unknowns, then chaos seems to reign.
That’s when I need to go to Jesus and obtain His peace which passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7). I especially love John 14:27, where Jesus promises His peace—that perfect peace in the middle of the storms of life.
It has taken time and experience to realize that the only way to bring order out of chaos in life’s challenges is to run to Jesus—and not away from Him. Not blaming Him, but placing the disordered and unplanned circumstances into His hands. The One who created the world out of nothing still has that same power today to bring order out of chaotic life events. And the more times I experience those moments or times, the more I realize how good God is, and that He really cares.
Chaos with clutter and disorganization—I can take care of that. Chaos from living on this earth? I can take care of that, too—but only by going to Jesus who promised that since He “began that good work” in me will also complete it (Philippians 1:6).
Now that sounds like a perfect solution to chaos!
